Edge Lane

about the project

Year: 2020

Client: Irwell Valley Housing Association

Contractor: Vistry NW

Location: Droylsden, Manchester

Program: RIBA Stage 4-7

Once an industrial site, this former brownfield location along the Ashton Canal has undergone a remarkable transformation into a thriving residential development.

The construction of a 116-unit scheme offered a blend of housing options, including 50 homes available for private sale and two apartment blocks featuring a total of 66 dwellings. The scheme included 2-bedroom apartments developed for Irwell Valley and supported using funding through Homes England Affordable Homes Programme. These homes provided a vital addition of affordable rental properties to their portfolio.

Including communal under croft carparking, these apartments feature Juliet balconies that not only enhance the living experience but also offer stunning panoramic views across Manchester, all while connecting residents to the revitalised Ashton Canal walkways.

Complementing the apartment blocks, a selection of 3 and 4-bedroom, two-and-a-half-storey homes constructed by Vistry NW enabled Linden Homes to deliver modern family housing in this vibrant, up-and-coming area.

This redevelopment not only revitalised a previously underutilised site but also met the growing demand for quality housing, paving the way for a sustainable and inclusive community.
